St. Xenia Cemetery at Nativity of Our Lord Jesus Christ Monastery is an important ministry of the monastic community. The first burial was of an unborn child in a special section lovingly cared for by the sisters. The first adult burial was of Schemanun Elizabeth, a member of the Nativity community, in 2013. Since those early days, many orthodox families sought plots at St. Xenia Cemetery for their loved ones and themselves.

Part of the mission of the monastery continues to be serving our greater Orthodox community by providing a more affordable option for internment. Over the years the monastic community has maintained and improved the cemetery grounds. A decade ago, the monastery also converted the existing pole on barn on the property to a beautiful venue for hospitality and the support of our grieving families. The generosity of the faithful was critical in accomplishing this.

The next step in the improvement of the St. Xenia Cemetery is construction of a memorial chapel in the cemetery. Presbytera Mirella Tudora of St. John the Baptist in Euless has designed a Byzantine style chapel to be situated in the center of the cemetery. The chapel will accommodate about sixty mourners as well as a casket. The chapel in the monastic residence accommodates less than 50 adults without a casket. Given the present and growing interest of the faithful in St. Xenia Cemetery as a final resting place, a memorial chapel is much needed.

The estimated cost of constructing the chapel is just over $301,000.00. During the initial “silent” phase of fundraising, friends of the monastery have contributed $100,000.00. We now enter the more “public” phase of fundraising with the intention of raising $201,000.00.

May God bless your generosity.
