Fr. Patrick Henry Reardon -- PRAYER AND THE WORD OF GOD
The root of our prayer is God’s revelation to us. When we speak to God, it is always a response to His speaking to us. Although He speaks to us in Nature and Providence, the most concrete and personal way He speaks to us is through the Spirit-filled Scriptures. In practice, the normal way to pray is in response to the hearing of the Bible. The Bible, which the Church Fathers call “the mirror of the soul,” is the indispensable text of our communion with God in prayer.
